DeCoInter – Decarbonisation of the Maritime Sector and its Impact on Green Energy Transition.
DeCoInter drives the green energy transition in South Baltic ports by promoting renewable energy (e.g., offshore wind) and alternative fuels (e.g., hydrogen, methanol). The project develops a digital tool and methodology for port energy transition strategies, builds green fuel value chains, and fosters regional collaboration through the Regional Cluster of Seaports Energy Transition (RCSET). Solutions are co-developed, tested in ports like Szczecin and Klaipeda, and shared across the region. Supported by research institutions and port authorities, DeCoInter aligns with the European Green Deal’s climate goals for 2030 and 2050.
Objectives
- Develop a framework for seaports’ energy transition strategies and infrastructure planning
- Create a scenario-based model for the green fuels value chain (production, transport, distribution, use)
- Increase awareness of low-emission technologies and regulatory frameworks among port stakeholders
- Design and pilot digital tools for decision-making on investments and emission reduction
- Promote cross-sector and cross-border cooperation in the South Baltic region
- Deliver education and training for students and professionals in maritime logistics and renewable energy
Expected Results
- A digital mapping and prioritisation tool to guide energy transition in seaports
- A harmonised methodology for developing port energy transition strategies
- A scenario model for the green fuels value chain to support long-term planning
- Pilot-tested solutions for alternative fuel handling and energy infrastructure
- Tailored educational and training programmes
- Establishment of the Regional Cluster for Seaports Energy Transition (RCSET) as a long-term cooperation platform
Target Groups
DeCoInter is directed to and benefits:
- Port authorities and operators
- Municipalities and logistics companies
- Energy sector entities
- Universities, researchers, and students
- Policy-makers and innovation clusters
