Motus Foundation Joins DigiTechPort2030 Meeting in Karlshamn

The Motus Foundation was proud to participate as a partner in the DigiTechPort2030 project meeting held in Karlshamn, Sweden, on May 27-28, 2025. Represented by Joanna Kniter, Motus joined project partners at the campus of Blekinge Institute of Technology to advance digitalization and decarbonization for small and medium-sized ports (SMSPs) in the South Baltic region. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the organizers for including Motus in this significant event, which strengthened our commitment to sustainable maritime innovation.

On the first day, interactive project sessions fostered active learning on key topics. Discussions on Legal and IMO/EU Compliance, led by experts like Stefan Jankowski, and Marcin Przywarty, explored the EU’s Fit for 55 package and IMO’s MARPOL regulations, highlighting the Green Policy Compliance Roadmap as a tool to simplify decarbonization for SMSPs. Another session, guided by contributors such as Lawrence Henesey, and Norbert Klettner, focused on Technical and Digital Innovations for Decarbonisation, showcasing AI, blockchain, and IoT. The Green Compass, presented by Erika Zavackienė, was a standout, enabling ports to evaluate sustainability gaps and prioritize actions for greener operations.

The second day featured a study visit to the Port of Karlshamn, a hub handling 4.9 million tons of cargo annually. The visit highlighted advancements in solar energy, automated mooring, and crisis response systems, offering insights into sustainable practices for SMSPs. Soft skills training followed, enhancing partner collaboration and aligning efforts for the project’s next phase. The event concluded with a steering committee meeting, where partners reviewed progress and planned future steps to drive DigiTechPort2030’s mission.

The Karlshamn meeting was a pivotal moment in our journey to transform SMSPs into sustainable, efficient hubs. The Motus Foundation remains dedicated to supporting this initiative, which aligns with our mission to promote sustainable transport and logistics.
