Gastech, the world’s largest gas and liquefied natural gas conference and exhibition, was held at Chiba, Tokyo from April 4 to 7. Ten Japanese energy companies and trading houses formed a consortium to host Gastech Japan 2017 in the first such attempt in the event’s history.
The prestigious summit has attracted global energy companies such as Shell, BP and ExxonMobil, Government ministers and business leaders. The exhibition featured over 600 exhibitors from all sectors of the energy industry, and visited by 25,000 attendees over four days.
The conference featured 200 speakers from companies including JERA, ENI, Shell, Mitsubishi and Chevron and explored topics such as: ‘The Global LNG Market in 2025,’ ‘Gas Market Reform,’ ‘Emerging Markets’ and ‘Health, Safety & Environment: Asset Infrastructure.’
This year’s edition of Gastech brought together the key players from various sectors and provided opportunities to discuss the key trends and policies that will affect the gas market and LNG industry during this pivotal time.
Gastech is supported by leading brands including Shell, Qatargas, Rasgas, Chevron, KPMG, Uniper, GE Oil & Gas and ENGIE.
State Minister for the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, Yosuke Takagi opened the conference, followed by the Minister for State of the United Arab Emirates and ADNOC Group CEO, His Excellency Dr Sultan Al Jaber. This was then followed by a formal opening ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by representatives of the Japan Gastech Consortium.
Further highlights of the opening plenary session included keynote speeches from Shell and Gazprom representatives. Further global CEOs and Chairmen then participated in an international leadership panel debate, with leadership representing ExxonMobil, Chevron, Total, Woodside Energy and ConocoPhillips and moderated by the Chairman & Chief Analyst of Wood Mackenzie, Simon Flowers.
On top of the regular Conference programme, four Specialist Events gave attendees an opportunity to meet other likeminded colleagues for more in-depth discussions and networking based on their business needs: VIP programme, Young astech, Women in Energ and LNG Procurement Forum
Baltic Ports Organization and Motus Foundation were represented by Emil Arolski, who had a speech during day three of conference. Presentation, under Technical sessions – Stream 3: Small-Sclae LNG & Infrastructure – Marine, showcase LNG projects in the Baltic Sea Region with the highlight of fast development and possible future activities.
Gastech 2018 will be held at the Fira Barcelona in Spain from 17 to 20 September 2018.
The conference will be hosted by Spain’s leading energy stakeholders including Enagás, Repsol, Gas Natural Fenosa and Técnicas Reunidas, the event (now in its 45th year) returns to Europe after three previous editions in Asia, and reflects the resurgence of gas & LNG in Europe.
