GAZ–SYSTEM has taken a decision on the expansion of the Świnoujście LNG terminal. After the completion of the works, the regasification capacity will increase from the current 5 billion m3 to 7.5 billion m3 of natural gas per year.
The planned expansion of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście covers increasing the existing SCV regasification layout with additional units. At present GAZ-SYSTEM along with the Polskie LNG subsidiary are preparing the start of the tender proceedings for the completion of the initial design works (FEED) as well as obtaining a building permit, of which obtaining an environmental decision is an element.
At the same time, GAZ–SYSTEM is conducting an analysis connected with the expansion of the terminal to include new functionalities. It includes the perspective of the LNG market expansion in the country along with the region of Central and Eastern Europe. The Company recognises the potential of liquefied natural gas used as a fuel – it wants to develop the services of LNG loading and bunkering ships, as well as directly delivering liquefied natural gas to clients with the use of road vehicle and railway logistics. The scope of the development of the terminal, considered by GAZ–SYSTEM includes, among others: the construction of a second berth, the construction of an industrial spur for the purpose of starting up the LNG handling and the construction of a third LNG tank.
LNG has become one of the most perspective fuels on the dynamically changing market of Central and Eastern Europe. Thanks to the expansion of the terminal in Świnoujście, we will become an active player on this market. As a result, we will gain additional possibilities for the collection and transmission of gas and we will increase the competitiveness of the Polish terminal. Based on the current technological progress in the LNG sector and the implementation of innovative solutions, GAZ-SYSTEM will be able to select the optimal path of development of the infrastructure and terminal services. In this way will fully take advantage of the market potential of the region – said Tomasz Stępień, GAZ-SYSTEM CEO.
Apart from the expansion of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, GAZ-SYSTEM is also conducting other strategic projects: the construction of the Baltic Pipe pipeline within the framework of the Norwegian Corridor and is preparing a concept for the FSRU floating terminal in the Gdańsk Bay. The company is also conducting a large expansion of the national transmission network – in the nearest future over 2,000 km of new gas transmission pipelines will be created.
