At the Gastech 2017 conference in Tokyo, Japan, DSME, a leading company within commercial ship building and LNG carrier technology, and DNV GL, the world’s leading classification society, presented the results of a joint development project (JDP) for the design of an innovative, efficient LNG carrier based on today’s technology. The project focused on delivering a design which an owner can take straight to the yard and is ready for upcoming market trends and incoming regulations, with an optimal size, hull form, and machinery and electrical systems.

The seminar “LNG for transport and industry” was held on 7.3.2017, during the first day of the Transport Week 2017 conference. At the seminar, on the initiative of the Motus Foundation, were presented several companies of LNG, universities and notcommercial organization. Topics discussed during seminar included LNG for industry, LNG in transport and cooling recovery from LNG tanks.
Royal IHC (IHC) has been awarded a contract for the design, construction and delivery of the 44,180kW self-propelled cutter suction dredger (CSD) SPARTACUS, for DEME in Belgium. The newly built CSD will be 164 metres long. The concept and basic design for this mega cutter was done in close cooperation with DEME, Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam (a 100% subsidiary of IHC) and IHC.
The LNG Outlook, the first of its kind for Shell, is an assessment of the global LNG market. It finds that total global demand for LNG has increased with the addition of six new importing countries since 2015: Colombia, Egypt, Jamaica, Jordan, Pakistan and Poland. China and India are two of the fastest growing buyers, with the number of LNG importers worldwide up to 35, from 10 at the start of the century.
It was an exciting day with representatives of UECC’s owners (NYK and Wallenius), UECC’s customers and partners who had gathered to celebrate this occasion. Despite a rare heavy snowfall that had not happened in Malmö for many years, there was still a high level of energy in the atmosphere as we gathered for the traditional christening ceremony. The remarkable energy we had held a deep significance to this event.
